THE AMERICAN CLUB OF MADRID
This 2-hour walking tour of Madrid seeks to reveal the historical traces of African and Afro-descendent presence in Madrid and the Iberian Peninsula. It addresses issues including the Moorish legacy in Madrid, and the effects and consequences of colonization. It explores how enslaved people and the Black diaspora have contributed to the urban, cultural, and social fabric of Madrid. It showcases emblematic locations in Madrid where it is still possible to observe physical and symbolic traces of the slave trade and African heritage.
The tour will meet and begin (at 11:30 sharp!) at Plaza de Isabel II (Metro Opera) and end at Puerta del Sol.
The tour will be guided by www.afroiberica.com
